Court Told To Nullify Anambra APC Primary Election Result

Valentine Ozigbo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for the Anambra State election, has challenged the results of the party’s primary held on April 5, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Awka.

Ozigbo’s lawsuit names the APC, the primary’s winner Nicholas Ukachukwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

He is seeking the court to nullify Ukachukwu’s nomination and declare him the rightful candidate.

According to court documents released to journalists on Friday, the suit was filed on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

During the primary election at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Nicholas Ukachukwu won with 1,455 votes, while Valentine Ozigbo received 67 votes.

Other aspirants, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu, received 26 and eight votes, respectively.

Ozigbo’s legal team, led by Umeh Kalu, SAN, and B.C. Igwilo, SAN, has included supporting evidence in the lawsuit, such as the party’s constitution, internal communications, and delegate registers.

The originating summons asks the court to determine whether the APC violated its own rules by allowing Ukachukwu’s candidacy.

In a personal statement titled “For a future worth fighting for,” Ozigbo criticized the April 5 primary, calling it a “well-scripted illusion.” He stated that he filed the lawsuit “for truth, for justice, and for Ndi Anambra.”

Ozigbo alleged that the primary was not a legitimate election but rather a manipulated process.

He claimed that a fabricated delegate list was used, that real APC members were excluded, and that the event was chaotic with violence and hired individuals posing as delegates.

He further alleged that Ukachukwu did not meet the eligibility requirements set out in the APC constitution.

As of the time of this report, the Federal High Court has not yet scheduled a hearing date for the lawsuit.
