Five New Requirements For U.S. Visa Applicants In Nigeria

The United States of America has announced new requirements, effective April 22nd, for visa applicants in Abuja and Lagos.

Applicants must present a DS-160 visa application form with a confirmation/barcode number (beginning with AA and followed by 00 – two zeroes) that corresponds exactly to the one used when booking their appointment online.

Here are the five new requirements for U.S. visa applicants in Nigeria:

  1. Matching DS-160 Confirmation Number: Applicants must bring a DS-160 visa application form displaying a barcode number that begins with “AA00” and precisely matches the one used to schedule their interview appointment. If the barcode numbers do not match, entry into the Consular Section and attendance at the interview will be denied.

  2. Attend Correct Appointment Location: Applicants are required to attend their visa interview at the specific location (either Abuja or Lagos) they selected when submitting their DS-160 form.

  3. Verify DS-160 Accuracy: Applicants are advised to double-check, at least two weeks prior to their interview, that the DS-160 barcode number on their printed form aligns with the one on their appointment confirmation. Using a DS-160 form from a previous application is not permitted.

  4. Procedure for Incorrect DS-160 Barcode: If the barcode number is found to be incorrect, applicants must log into their AVITS account at least 10 days before their scheduled interview and create a support ticket to request a correction.

  5. Rescheduling After Rejection: If an applicant is turned away due to mismatched barcode numbers, they will need to rectify the issue and then book a new visa appointment. If their previously paid visa fee has expired, a new fee payment will be necessary before a new appointment can be scheduled.
