ASUU Lecturers Resume Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) branch, has resumed its previously suspended indefinite strike, citing the state government’s failure to fulfill earlier agreements.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Thursday by the branch chairman, Dr. Peter Adamu, and shared with the press in Kaduna.

Dr. Adamu pointed to a breach of trust and the government’s refusal to implement agreed-upon terms as the main reasons for the strike.

Among the unresolved issues are the non-payment of withheld salaries, earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, and unremitted pension contributions.

He also highlighted other outstanding demands, including the implementation of wage awards, enrollment in group life insurance for staff, and the restoration of the university’s autonomy.

Adamu noted that although the union had earlier suspended the strike, the government’s continued inaction has forced them to resume the industrial action, which is expected to impact academic activities.

He emphasized the union’s resolve to remain on strike until their demands are fully addressed.
