The Federal Government has clarified that the installation of solar panels at the Aso Rock Villa, Nigeria’s seat of power, is aimed at reducing the unsustainable annual electricity bill of approximately ₦47 billion.
Mustapha Abdulahi, the Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, explained during a press briefing on Friday that President Bola Tinubu approved ₦10 billion for the solar power grid project at the presidential villa to address this issue.

Abdulahi stated that this initiative aligns with the President’s agenda to diversify energy sources and lower the costs of governance.
He further noted that the solar power system will provide uninterrupted and clean energy, generate employment, stimulate innovation among Nigerian engineers and energy experts, and ultimately lessen the strain on the national power grid.
Abdulahi also disclosed that recent innovations by the current administration have attracted interest from development partners, who have allocated around $5.3 billion for investment in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly for measures to expand the grid.
