Wike Gives Conditions For Peace With Fubara

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has outlined the conditions for any genuine reconciliation with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his former political ally who is now his rival.

Speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Honourable Ken Chikere in Port Harcourt on Friday, Wike addressed the ongoing tensions in Rivers State.

He emphasized that while he is open to peace, it must be authentic and include all major political stakeholders, not just be a deceptive show.

“We are men of peace, not of trouble,” he stated. “But it must be peace with sincerity, not peace as a decoy. Members of the State Assembly, the National Assembly, and the two major political parties must be involved.”

Wike criticized the silence of certain elder statesmen and accused them of being complicit in the crisis, which was seen by many as a direct attack on Fubara’s supporters and some traditional leaders.

He questioned their actual efforts to bring lasting peace to the state.

The FCT Minister also condemned what he called media blackmail tactics, asserting that they would not resolve the political turmoil.

“No amount of embarrassment or blackmail can bring peace. What can bring peace is humility and a sincere commitment to the interests of the state,” he said.
