Tinubu Reacts As Prominent Cleric Dies

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences on the passing of Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah Iwo, the President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, who died on Monday at the age of 81.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, Tinubu praised the late cleric as a respected Islamic scholar and a significant figure in religious leadership and moral guidance in Nigeria.

Sheikh Hadiyyatullah, who was also the founder and director of Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria in Iwo, Osun State, was scheduled to be buried on Tuesday after Janazah prayers at the college.

President Tinubu highlighted the cleric’s lifelong dedication to Islam and humanitarian efforts. He described Sheikh Hadiyyatullah as a leader who provided exceptional guidance to the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria and lived according to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He also acknowledged the impact Sheikh Hadiyyatullah had on many lives through his Shariah College.

Tinubu also recalled the support the Supreme Council for Shariah, under Hadiyyatullah’s leadership, provided during the 2023 general elections, when the council stood for truth and justice.

The President extended his sympathy to the late cleric’s family, the people of Iwo, and the entire Islamic community in Nigeria. He acknowledged that Sheikh Hadiyyatullah’s humility, deep knowledge, and devotion to Islam would be greatly missed by Muslims in Nigeria.

Tinubu encouraged the Supreme Council for Shariah to continue upholding the values of justice, religious tolerance, unity, peace, and harmony that Sheikh Hadiyyatullah championed during his lifetime.

The President prayed for the repose of the late scholar’s soul and for strength and grace for his family and all those he left behind.
