Nnamdi Ezechi, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has criticized the arrest of activist Martins Otse, known as Very Dark Man (VDM).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that VDM was arrested on May 2 on charges of cyberstalking Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) in Abuja.
This followed his visit to the bank to address alleged unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account.

Ezechi condemned the arrest as unprofessional and urged the Nigeria Police to prioritize professionalism in their duties.
He argued that the police should have invited VDM, a law-abiding citizen, in a professional manner rather than resorting to a “Gestapo-style” arrest.
“I, Hon Nnamdi Ezechi, vehemently condemn the arrest of Very Dark Man at the Guarantee Trust Bank, Abuja. Very Dark Man, I know is not a criminal, and as such cannot be arrested like a criminal,” he stated.
The lawmaker called for VDM’s immediate release and advised banks, particularly GTB, to protect their customers’ privacy.
He emphasized that it is unethical for banks to disclose information about their customers’ movements or personal details, especially for law-abiding individuals like VDM.
He described VDM as a human rights activist who advocates for the rights of the oppressed and ordinary citizens.
