Senate Takes Fresh Action On Rivers Sole Administrator

The Nigerian Senate has established an 18-member committee to monitor the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability in the state’s administration.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the formation of the committee during Tuesday’s plenary session, with Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele appointed as its chairman.

Akpabio emphasized the committee’s crucial role in ensuring effective legislative oversight in Rivers State.

He also indicated that the committee’s composition might be adjusted after further discussions.

The committee’s members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.

The Senate President urged the committee to promptly begin its oversight duties, highlighting the urgency of their task and reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to upholding democratic processes in Rivers State.
