The Benue State government has announced the death of Rtd. Col. Joseph Akaagerger, who previously served as the military governor of Katsina State.
According to a press statement released on Tuesday in Makurdi by Mr. Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue Governor, Akaagerger passed away on Thursday, May 15, at the age of 69.
Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed profound sadness over the sudden loss of the former senator for Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A).
Alia described Akaagerger as a “patriotic Nigerian” who dedicated his best to both the nation and Benue State.
He further noted that Akaagerger demonstrated his qualities in politics, business, community service, and philanthropy during his time as a lawmaker and senator.
The Governor lamented Akaagerger’s passing, stating that Benue State would deeply miss his contributions, especially his advice and involvement as an elder statesman and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue.
He offered prayers for comfort to Akaagerger’s immediate family, associates, and the people of Benue and Nigeria, urging them to find solace in his enduring legacies and to build upon them in his honor.
He also prayed for eternal rest for the late Senator.
