JAMB Registrar Reacts To Allegations Of Sabotaging South East Candidates

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has stated that the technical glitch experienced during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was not specifically aimed at candidates from the Southeast.

This assertion comes after the Southeast Caucus of the House of Representatives called for Oloyede’s resignation due to the glitch, which notably affected the results of candidates in Southeast states and Lagos State in the Southwest.

The caucus leader, Igariwey Enwo, had also demanded a new date for the affected candidates to retake the examination.

He said, “To this end, we call for the immediate suspension of those at the commanding heights of JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics.

“The registrar of JAMB is said to be a good man, but then, leadership must carry consequences. We, therefore, call on the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to do the needful by resigning his appointment to pave the way for a thorough examination and remediation of the root causes of this national shame.

“That’s the way to go in any civilised democracy, and we expect no less.”

During a Wednesday meeting with the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), held before the release of rescheduled UTME exam results, Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede refuted claims that the technical glitch was a deliberate attempt to undermine students from the Southeast.

He affirmed that “every candidate is a Nigerian” and therefore has “equal opportunities.”

Professor Oloyede also took a moment to call for a minute of silence to mourn a candidate who tragically died as a result of the examination.
