NRC Worker Caught Stealing Railway Signal Cables

Operatives of the Man O’ War Railway Command have arrested Gift Eseeli, a 38-year-old Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) employee, for allegedly stealing “several lengths of 50mm armoured signal cables” from the Warri-Itakpe Train Service corridor.

According to a statement by NRC Acting Spokesman, Callistus Unyimadu, the stolen cables were recovered intact and have been handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation.

The statement detailed that Eseeli was apprehended at Rafa Yard along the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor after vigilant officers, led by Mr. Williams Agiake, intercepted him following the removal of cables from trackside installations.

The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, emphasized that NRC properties are national assets, stating that acts of vandalism endanger passenger safety and undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” infrastructure drive.

He vowed that the NRC would prosecute any individual or group, including its own employees, found guilty of vandalism “without exceptions.”
