Why Delegates Disrupted Atiku, Obi Coalition Meeting

A political coalition meeting in Abuja involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, and other opposition leaders was disrupted on Sunday.

The disruption, reported by Punch newspaper, stemmed from a disagreement over who should speak for the Jigawa State delegation at the parley, convened by the National Political Consultative Group (North) at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Tension arose when Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced a delegate to speak for Jigawa State, prompting protests from other delegates from the state. This halted the proceedings.

Following the outrage and ensuing tension, security personnel, including the police and the State Security Service (SSS), formed a protective barrier around Atiku, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and other attendees.

After several minutes, normalcy was restored, and Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, along with another individual, were chosen to represent the state’s delegates.
