Amaechi Reveals Those Who Made Him Governor

Former Minister of Transportation and two-time Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has responded to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike’s recent comments.

Amaechi asserted that his governorship in 2007 was a result of God, Peter Odili, and the people of Rivers State.

Amaechi explained that his decision to appoint Wike as Chief of Staff, rather than Commissioner for Finance, was a strategic move to enable him to closely supervise Wike’s activities.

“I wanted him as Chief of Staff so I could supervise him. I didn’t offer him Commissioner for Finance,” Amaechi stated during an interview on Arise News Channel’s PrimeTime Show on Tuesday evening, adding, “You see, I’m saying this because I don’t want to join issues with children.”

This exchange follows a recent political spat ignited by Amaechi’s remark at his 60th birthday celebration, where he commented, “We’re all hungry.” Wike had then retorted, implying Amaechi’s hunger was for political relevance, not food.

However, Amaechi dismissed Wike’s insinuations and rejected claims that Wike was instrumental in his rise to power as governor.

“God, Peter Odili, the judiciary, and the Rivers State people made me governor,” he declared.

“Ask him how he made me governor. I’m saying this because I don’t want to join issues with children.”

In a sarcastic jab, Amaechi ironically suggested Wike’s self-made political ascendancy: “You know, he made himself Chief of Staff. He made himself governor. He made himself minister. He made himself local government chairman.”
