Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims that “power brokers” are influencing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at the 2025 OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday, Wike asserted, “He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge.”
Wike, a lawyer and former governor of Rivers State, delivered the keynote address at the event.
He commended President Tinubu for his bold decisions, noting that past Nigerian presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, lacked the courage to remove the petrol subsidy and unify foreign exchange rates.

Wike emphasized that many individuals would still be profiting from fuel subsidy fraud if Tinubu hadn’t taken these steps.
Despite Nigeria’s underperformance since independence and the visible societal divisions, Wike expressed optimism that the nation can still achieve greatness with the right governance frameworks.
He stressed the importance of rebuilding trust and strengthening national unity to move Nigeria forward, adding that the desired Nigeria will require the vision, sacrifice, hard work, and purpose of all citizens.
“Let us leave for the next generation resolves and not regrets,” he urged, calling for a collective commitment to nation-building.
Wike also took a swipe at his critics who call for his removal as minister, asserting that those who claim he lacks the capacity to deliver are mistaken.
He reiterated his firm stance that ground rent debtors in Abuja must pay their outstanding debts, stating that “heaven would not fall” if they did so.
The event saw the attendance of notable figures, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, among others.
