Why I Won’t Join APC – Dele Momodu

Media mogul and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Dele Momodu, has firmly ruled out joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He cited authoritarianism and a lack of internal democracy within the ruling party as his reasons.

During an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, the former presidential aspirant dismissed growing speculation about his potential defection to the APC, even as his own party, the PDP, faces internal crises.

“I definitely won’t join the APC. That one is out of the question,” Momodu stated unequivocally. “If I wanted to join the APC, I wouldn’t be talking to you the way I am this morning.”

The Ovation Magazine publisher and two-time presidential hopeful criticized the APC’s leadership style, alleging the party operates an autocratic system that conflicts with his democratic values.

“I cannot sit in a room where one man will dictate to able-bodied adults who have worked all their lives and say that he is the lord of the manor,” he said, in a thinly veiled reference to influential figures within the APC.

Momodu’s remarks come amid ongoing factional tensions and leadership struggles within the PDP, which have led to speculation that some party stalwarts might seek opportunities elsewhere.

However, Momodu made it clear that his dissatisfaction with the PDP does not equate to support for the APC. Earlier on Tuesday, he had admitted his commitment to the PDP was strained, saying, “My body is in the PDP, but my soul has left.”
