The Presidency has debunked a viral online list falsely claiming that human rights activist Aisha Yesufu and 35 others were recently granted national honors by President Bola Tinubu.
This controversial list, which appeared on social media on Friday, sparked intense debate, particularly among supporters of the Tinubu administration, due to the inclusion of Yesufu, a prominent government critic.
While the widely circulated document featured 102 names, President Tinubu had, in fact, announced only 66 awardees during his Democracy Day address at the joint sitting of the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, June 13.

In response, Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, dismissed the circulating document as “fake news.”
In a Facebook post, Ajayi stated, “The story on a viral list of national honours featuring the name of Aisha Yesufu and others credited to the Leadership newspaper is fake news. It should be ignored.”
He further clarified, “The Presidency has not issued fresh names for national honour different from the ones in President Tinubu’s address to the joint sitting of the National Assembly yesterday.”
As part of the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations, President Tinubu had honored 66 Nigerians who made significant contributions to the nation’s democratic journey.
