Following his suspension, Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly met with the suspended Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other aggrieved state lawmakers.
According to multiple sources, the meeting took place in Abuja on Thursday evening.
It is being described as the first step toward reconciliation between the governor and the lawmakers.
Sources revealed that the meeting was successful, with Fubara and Amaewhule joking and laughing together as the governor held the Speaker’s hands.

A source close to the matter confirmed that Fubara’s engagement was fruitful and that a larger peace meeting would be held to finalize the terms of reconciliation.
The source emphasized the suspended Governor’s commitment to achieving peace.
Fubara was suspended from office on March 19, 2025, after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the escalating political crisis.
The National Assembly ratified the declaration, and the President appointed former Naval Chief, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, as an administrator for six months to allow for reconciliation.
While Fubara had previously met with his former political mentor, Nyesom Wike, and President Tinubu regarding the Rivers situation, this Thursday’s meeting with the lawmakers is considered the most crucial step toward a genuine resolution.
Wike had previously stressed that true reconciliation would require Fubara to meet with stakeholders he had offended, particularly the members of the House of Assembly, whose salaries and allowances he had allegedly withheld for over two years.
The news of the meeting was met with applause from various stakeholders in the state, including Fubara’s family, who saw it as a positive step forward.
