Nigerians Reacts As Abia Tricycle Rider Returns ₦4m Forgotten By Passenger

A commercial tricycle driver in Aba, Abia State, has earned widespread praise after returning ₦4 million that was mistakenly left in his tricycle by a passenger.

In viral videos from the scene, the grateful passenger, surrounded by a crowd, was seen praying for the driver, who held the bundles of cash. The driver, Lucky Okoro, also shared the story on his Facebook page on Thursday, expressing gratitude for the chance to do “the right thing.”

According to Okoro, he picked up a woman—a Cameroonian—from the Aba Main Park and dropped her off at Ariaria Market.

The woman unknowingly left a bag containing ₦4 million in his tricycle, locally known as a “keke.”

Okoro wrote that after discovering the money, he immediately began searching for the woman.

When he couldn’t find her at the park, he returned to Ariaria Market, where he found her at a junction, crying and distraught.

“I called her, wiped all her tears then returned the money to her and took her to a hotel and she paid for it,” he wrote, adding that he helped her settle into a nearby hotel so she could recover from the shock.

Despite being mocked by some of his fellow keke riders who called him a “mugu” (a fool) for returning the money, Okoro stood by his decision.

“Thanks Jehovah, I found her. Some of my fellow Keke people called me mugun but I am not a mugun. I love what I did,” he wrote.

He proudly identified himself as a Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The incident has gone viral, with many Nigerians commending Okoro’s integrity, noting that many people would have kept the money.

This isn’t the first such story from the state; in May, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State reportedly rewarded another tricycle driver in Aba with ₦1.4 million for returning ₦2.4 million forgotten by a passenger.
