The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
This was announced on Thursday in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara.
“The attention of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to an unconstitutional pronouncement by the Acting National Chairman of our great party, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, purporting to cancel the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled to hold on Monday, 30th June, 2025 and directing Senator Samuel Anyanwu to resume as National Secretary of the party,” the statement read in part.
“The BoT, in defense of the Constitution of the PDP, states categorically that these pronouncements by the Acting National Chairman are null, void and of no effect, being inconsistent and in gross violation of the express provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).”

In a statement signed by Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) is the party’s highest decision-making body, second only to the National Convention.
Wabara emphasized that, according to Section 31 (3) of the PDP Constitution, the resolution passed at the 99th NEC meeting to hold its 100th meeting on Monday, June 30, 2025, is binding on all party organs and members.
He further stated that because this is a NEC decision, no other organ, group, or individual has the authority to cancel, change, or postpone the scheduled 100th NEC meeting.
“It is therefore not within the remit or authority of the Acting National Chairman, to override a collective decision of the NEC. Such conduct amounts to an affront to the constitutional authority of NEC and the collective will of our party,” he said.
“Furthermore, the statement purporting to reinstate Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary is equally spurious and offensive to the spirit and letter of the PDP Constitution, the outcome of the Supreme Court judgment and the resolution of NEC.
“The decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) at its 600th meeting directing the Deputy National Secretary to act as National Secretary in accordance with the extant powers of the NWC remains valid, having not been set aside by the NWC or NEC. The attempt by Amb. Damagum to overturn that decision is a gross abuse of office.”
Adolphus Wabara stated that the Board of Trustees (BoT), as the “conscience of the PDP,” will not tolerate “impunity, unilateralism, and disregard for constitutional procedures” that could plunge the party into chaos.
Therefore, the BoT has made the following affirmations:
- The 100th NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled on Monday, June 30, 2025.
- All NEC members are advised to disregard any conflicting notices or statements regarding the meeting.
- Arc. Setonji Koshoedo remains the Acting National Secretary until the appropriate party organ decides and formally communicates a different decision.
The BoT urged all party members to respect the supremacy of the PDP Constitution and resist any attempts to cause an “avoidable crisis.” Wabara reiterated that no individual’s interests are more important than the party’s institutional integrity.
He concluded by affirming that the BoT, as the party’s “moral compass,” will continue to uphold due process, party supremacy, and the democratic principles on which the PDP was founded.
