Aliyu Bello, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has been suspended by the leadership of his ward, Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area.
This decision comes just hours after the state leadership of the party had passed a vote of confidence on him in an emergency meeting in Lafia.
Ibrahim Ilyasu, the Chairman of the APC Gayam Ward, announced Bello’s suspension at a press briefing in Lafia on Tuesday.
He stated that the unanimous decision by all Gayam Ward party officials was due to an alleged breach of Article 21 of the party’s constitution.

Ilyasu explained, “In line with the powers vested in us as ward executives under Article 21 (D) (i)-(iii) of the APC constitution, and having consulted widely with stakeholders within the ward, we have resolved that you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, are hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.”
He accused Bello of “openly indulging in anti-party activities by promoting and campaigning for an aspirant from another political party, which exposed the party to ridicule and disrepute.”
Specifically, Ilyasu cited “credible evidence and reports that you have openly promoted and campaigned for a member of another political party, in direct violation of Article 21 (0), (ii), and (vii) which prohibit; engaging in acts that tend to bring the party into hatred, contempt, ridicule or disrepute.”
The ward chairman emphasized that the suspension is effective immediately and urged Bello to “desist from parading yourself as a member of the party from Gayam Ward.”
He added, “Your actions have caused embarrassment to the party, undermined the credibility of our collective efforts, and constitute a serious breach of party loyalty and discipline.”
Meanwhile, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Otaru Douglas, had earlier issued a statement this week alleging a planned and sponsored move to suspend the chairman from the party by one of the state’s governorship aspirants.
