Adeyanju Reacts To Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai’s Coalition

Rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has commended the formation of a new opposition coalition, which formally merged with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday night.

He described this development as a “long overdue but commendable step toward rescuing Nigeria’s democracy.”

This political realignment has generated significant reactions, as influential figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have aligned with the coalition.

This united front is widely seen as a potential game-changer ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting in Abuja on Wednesday, Adeyanju expressed optimism that the coalition would offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose tenure he characterized as “disastrous.”

He stated, “I’m proud of the opposition for finally coming together. Special thanks to Atiku, Obi, and other top opposition leaders for setting aside personal ambition to make this happen. This is what they should have done in 2023. I hope Kwankwaso will also do same.”

Adeyanju further emphasized that a fragmented opposition had previously allowed for the APC’s continued dominance and urged other major political figures not yet part of the coalition to consider joining this united front.
