Names Of Top Politicians Who Attended Coalition’s Party Unveiling

Top political figures from across Nigeria’s political spectrum converged on the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, for the official unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new platform for a mega opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This event marks a significant political realignment, as opposition heavyweights prepare to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the next polls in 2027.

Among those present at this high-stakes gathering were Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and his 2023 LP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Also in attendance were former Vice President and 2023 candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, along with former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, ex-APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe, and Anambra Central lawmaker Victor Umeh.

The influential figures further included former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa), and Emeka Ihedioha (Imo), all recognized for their significant roles within Nigeria’s political landscape.

The coalition has officially adopted the ADC as its political vehicle and has appointed former Senate President David Mark as its Chairman, with former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola serving as the Secretary of the movement.

Mark and Aregbesola, both seasoned veterans with extensive political connections across different divides, are expected to provide strategic leadership for this newly formed coalition.
