Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has refuted claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are sponsoring him to undermine the ADC’s takeover by an opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
During an interactive session with reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Kachikwu asserted that no living Nigerian politician possesses the means to compromise his stance against the party’s takeover by former Senate President, Senator David Mark.
He vowed to resist this takeover, which he believes is specifically designed to position Atiku Abubakar for the presidency in the 2027 elections.

Kachikwu cautioned Nigerians against being misled into believing that the newly formed coalition within the ADC genuinely aims to improve their well-being.
He passionately articulated his views, stating, “This is something I want all Nigerians to know. For the last two decades, all we hear from these old fogies, these geratrics is anytime someone opposes the agenda they say you are being sponsored. Still, I want to tell you, Nigerians, what’s happening. These people are being sponsored against you, Nigerians.”
He continued, exposing what he perceives as a deep-seated political elite: “They are all the same, they are an old boys club, they are all friends, they all meet at night to plan against you. If Tinubu is President or Atiku is President, there’s no difference. They are all friends. If Obi is President, there’s no difference; they are all friends, you are the outsiders.”

Kachikwu emphasized the disconnect between these politicians and the average citizen: “You average Nigerians are the outsiders, you are not their friends, you don’t go for their birthday parties, you don’t go for their weddings, you don’t go for their dinners, but they all attend each other’s parties and each other’s weddings because they are all members of the same club.”
He concluded this thought by saying, “You Nigerians are the outsiders; they are the ones sponsoring them against you, so that you don’t wake up one day and say, no, we’re tired of these people. We need to do something about these people.”
Kachikwu specifically criticized the interim National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark, pointing out that he still desires political power despite having held numerous political positions in the past. He adamantly declared, “There’s not one of them that has what it takes to sponsor me. They can’t afford to buy my conscience when I speak on issues concerning Nigeria. It’s about what pertains to the common man.”
Kachikwu concluded by vowing his unwavering commitment to thwarting the “backdoor” takeover of the ADC by the opposition coalition.
