Presidency Describes ADC

The Presidency, on Wednesday, dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a gathering of what it termed “internally displaced politicians.”

Reacting to the ADC’s leadership unveiling in Abuja, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, took to his X handle, @BwalaDaniel, to describe the political realignment as “a dead on arrival party.”

Bwala’s post further elaborated on his critical view, calling the coalition an “Association of wild goose chasers, consisting of internally displaced politicians forming a dead on arrival party; better described in the words of @PeterObi as ‘structure of criminality.’”

Although Bwala did not explicitly name individuals in his social media post, his comments were clearly directed at the key figures and proponents of the ADC, which is being promoted as a broad alliance of opposition politicians aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The ADC coalition’s members include notable figures who have defected from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC, largely due to internal party disputes or personal political ambitions.

Among these are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and Mr. Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

It is noteworthy that Bwala himself, a former PDP chieftain, had also defected to the APC in 2023 and was previously a vocal critic of President Tinubu before his appointment in 2024.
