Seven members of the House of Representatives from the Akwa Ibom State caucus have defected from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.
The lawmakers, who were initially elected under the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), announced their change of allegiance through individual letters addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

The defecting lawmakers are Unyime Idem, Martin Esin, Paul Ekpo, Uduak Alphonsos, Eteh Ikpong, Emmanuel Udom, and Okon Bassey.
This mass defection from Akwa Ibom follows closely on the heels of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno’s recent move from the PDP to the APC, signifying a notable shift in the state’s political landscape.
