Wike Makes Announcement Concerning Details Of Peace Deal With Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced on Thursday that he would not disclose the specific details of the recent peace agreement brokered between himself and the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking during a media chat at his Abuja residence, Wike insisted that the paramount outcome was the return of peace to the state, and he was content to let the public speculate about the terms of the truce.

He stated, “I will allow you to speculate, it’s not my business. All I know is that peace has come. If you are not satisfied with that, there is nothing we can do. What is important is that peace has returned, whatever thing anybody says is not my business.”

Wike further alleged that certain individuals had exploited the Rivers State crisis for personal financial gain and are now displeased with his reconciliation with the suspended Governor.

This recent truce follows a conciliatory meeting hosted by President Bola Tinubu last month, involving Wike, Fubara, and the suspended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which signaled a potential resolution to the long-standing political impasse.

The President had previously suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers Assembly in March 2025, amidst a heated and protracted conflict in the oil-rich state.

The crisis originated from a fallout between Wike and Fubara, his former political godson, over control of state political structures, escalating to the point where lawmakers loyal to Wike, led by Martin Amaewhule, attempted to impeach Fubara.

In response to the escalating situation, Tinubu had immediately appointed and sworn in a retired naval chief, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd), as the sole administrator of the state.
