Five Governors Who Accompanied Tinubu To Brazil For BRICS Meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government for the Global South and Emerging Economic Bloc, known as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

President Tinubu’s flight landed at the Galeao Air Force Base tarmac at 8:45 PM on Friday, where he was greeted with a Guard of Honour coordinated by the Base Commander.

He was officially received by Brazil’s Deputy Minister for Africa and the Middle East, Ambassador Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, and the Deputy Minister for Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation, and Culture.

President Tinubu’s visit to Brazil is at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva. The Nigerian leader is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with President Lula today, July 5, ahead of the main summit on June 6 and 7.

During the BRICS Summit, President Tinubu will deliver an address at a plenary session, focusing on Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms aimed at enhancing global competitiveness.

The Presidency has stated that he also intends to attract investors to capitalize on opportunities within Nigeria’s agriculture, solid minerals, healthcare, and alternative energy sectors.

The summit’s theme is “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with discussions centering on critical issues such as health, Artificial Intelligence, governance, and Climate Change.

Prior to the Leaders’ Summit, BRICS political negotiators held discussions to align commitments on combating socially determined diseases, governing artificial intelligence, and climate finance.

Accompanying the President to the summit are several state governors, including Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).
