At least five individuals were reportedly killed in Benin City, Edo State, between Monday and Tuesday, due to a resurgence of violence linked to an ongoing rivalry between suspected members of the Maphite and Aye (Black Axe) cult groups. This renewed turf war has heightened tension among residents across the city.
The deceased have been identified by community members as Lucky Okotie, Yoyin, George, Lucky, and Abel. Specific incidents include George, a mechanic, being shot dead outside his workshop on Oza Street on Monday evening.
Similarly, Yoyin was reportedly killed by a rival cult group around Oroghene Street that same evening.

Another fatal attack occurred on Wire Road around 7:30 pm, while another person was murdered on Ewah Road in broad daylight on Tuesday.
One victim, Lucky, was killed inside his home on 3rd East Circular Road around 6 pm on Monday when gunmen stormed his residence.
Another eyewitness recounted that Lucky Okotie was shot near the 2nd West area while buying roasted corn and later died due to lack of oxygen after the vehicle taking him to the hospital got stuck in traffic.
The fifth victim, whose identity remains unconfirmed, was reportedly killed on Textile Mill Road on Monday.
