‘Kidnapper’ Arrested With N13m Cash, Arms Along Kaduna-Jos Road

Troops from Operation SAFE HAVEN, currently engaged in Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, have successfully apprehended and subsequently neutralized a suspected kidnapper along the Wamba-Jos road, recovering N13 million in cash along with a cache of arms.

The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.

Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for the operation, stated that this successful arrest is part of ongoing efforts to secure the Joint Operations Area from criminal elements.

Narrating the incident, Major Zhakom explained that on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, troops conducting snap checkpoints along the Wamba-Jos Road at Agameti in Sanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle (registration number JJN 336 YZ) with three occupants.

Two of the occupants, however, managed to flee shortly before reaching the checkpoint.

Upon inspection, the troops discovered bullet holes and bloodstains on the vehicle.

The sole remaining suspect then attempted to bribe the troops, but they refused the monetary gratification.

The troops proceeded to arrest the suspect and conducted a thorough search of both him and the vehicle, recovering:

  • Two (2) AK-47 rifles
  • Two (2) AK-47 magazines
  • Thirty (30) rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition
  • Three (3) mobile phones
  • One (1) knife
  • One (1) football
  • Assorted charms
  • One (1) torchlight
  • The sum of Thirteen Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-Two Thousand Naira (N13,742,000) in cash.

Major Zhakom stated that during interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed to engaging in kidnapping activities along the Jos-Makurdi Road and agreed to lead the troops to their hideout.

However, while being led to the hideout, “the suspect in a bid to escape attempted to disarm own troops and was neutralised.”

Zhakom added that follow-up operations are underway to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate, reaffirming the troops’ commitment to protecting lives and tracking down criminal elements within their operational area.
