Ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Lagos, thirteen out of the fifteen political parties contesting the polls refused to sign a peace accord.
Only the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Youth Party endorsed the agreement facilitated by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
The thirteen dissenting parties cited various unresolved grievances as their reasons for not signing, including a perceived lack of consultation, procedural unfairness, and concerns regarding LASIEC’s management of the electoral process.

A peace accord in elections is a formal agreement where political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders pledge to uphold peace and ethical conduct throughout the electoral cycle.
This commitment involves refraining from violence, hate speech, voter intimidation, or any actions that could disrupt the election or compromise its integrity.
The primary goal of such an accord is to promote a peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral environment, encouraging parties to resolve disputes through legal or democratic channels rather than conflict.
