The Labour Party (LP) announced on Friday that its 2027 presidential ticket is open to all, with no politician receiving preferential treatment during the selection of aspirants.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, confirmed that primary elections will be held for members vying to be the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.
“There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favoured this time around,” Arabambi declared.

He criticized the 2023 selection of Peter Obi as a “blunder with lasting consequences” and a “betrayal of Nigerians,” stating that the party aims to correct this mistake before the next elections.
Peter Obi, who emerged as LP’s presidential candidate in the last general election, finished third according to INEC’s results, securing victories in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
However, Arabambi questioned Obi’s loyalty to the party, especially after his recent involvement with the coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and his declared intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Arabambi further dismissed the members of this new coalition as “Yahoo Yahoo politicians” who contributed to hardship in 2015.
“Instead of a leader with debt and discipline and demonstrable progress for national renewal, Nigeria got a populist, whose greatest skill is telling people what they want to hear. The 2027 election must not repeat this error, even as Peter Obi has defected from the Labour Party to ADC.
“Nigerians are wishing him well in that ungodly coalition because these are the same coalition that brought catastrophe on Nigerians between 2015 and 2023. Such a coalition must be rejected.
“We wish Obi well in his Yahoo Yahoo coalition, but to let him know that the Labour Party presidential ticket is now open to all Nigerians.
“There shall be a primary election this time around, and no aspirant would be favoured,” Arabambi said.
