A man identified as Allen Wogu, who claims to be a classmate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly refuted the minister’s assertion that he achieved significant wealth early in life and drove a Mercedes Benz while a student at the University of Port Harcourt.
Wike had made these claims last week during a Channels Television program, where he addressed allegations of corrupt self-enrichment leveled against him by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The minister had maintained that he was a self-made man who began earning substantial money at a very young age.

In dismissing the corruption allegations, Wike specifically stated that he personally purchased his Rolls-Royce and it was not received as a bribe or a political favor, emphasizing that no contractor or associate had given him the luxury vehicle.
“I have a Rolls-Royce. So what? Nobody gave it to me. I bought it. People ask, ‘With what money?’ Let me tell you — I came from a comfortable background,” the FCT Minister had said.
Wike further claimed that his father was a general manager across several companies, suggesting he maintained a comfortable lifestyle even during his student years.
“As a student, I was driving a Mercedes-Benz. So don’t let anyone tell you I suddenly became wealthy. I didn’t come from poverty,” he added.
However, in a Facebook post on Thursday, Wogu directly refuted Wike’s claims, stating that the minister lied about his privileged background.
Wogu described Wike as a “struggling student” in the late 1980s, who couldn’t even afford a bicycle, let alone a Mercedes-Benz, while studying political science and education.
“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. I wonder how someone who has classmates who, by God’s grace, are alive would come on national television and claim he was driving a Mercedes Benz car between 1986 and 1990 in the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied political science/education,” Wogu wrote in the post.
“Jesus Christ, please have mercy. This guy wore sandals with buckles and never rode on a bicycle throughout our 4-year sojourn, and I have over 4000 witnesses. So this is how he has been lying? Too shocked here,” he added.
