Security Beefed Up As Sympathisers Throng Buhari’s Kaduna Residence

Barely two hours after the announcement of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death in a London hospital, mourners have begun to gather at his residence on Jabi Close in Kaduna to offer their condolences.

Among the initial visitors was Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, the former Minister of Water Resources, who confirmed to The Nation that the late President’s remains would be flown back to Nigeria for burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites, which typically involve burial as soon as possible.

While it was not immediately clear which family members were present to receive guests, neighbors and sympathizers were observed solemnly gathered along the street, many visibly emotional, quietly recalling memories of the former statesman.

Security in the area was swiftly bolstered.

Two military gun trucks were positioned near the residence, and heavily armed soldiers patrolled the vicinity, restricting vehicle movement and preventing loitering on the narrow street.

The mood was somber as more political associates and members of the public continued to arrive, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the former President and strength for his grieving family.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon by the family, in collaboration with the Katsina State Government.
