Tinubu Sets Up Inter-Ministerial Committee For Buhari’s State Burial

President Bola Tinubu has authorized the formation of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to organize a state burial for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was announced in a statement released on Monday in Abuja by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The statement noted that the committee will be chaired by the SGF, Senator George Akume, and is responsible for overseeing the planning and coordination of a dignified state burial for the late former president.

Committee members include the Ministers of Finance and Economy, Budget and Economic Planning, Defence, Information and National Orientation, and Works. Others are the Ministers of Interior, Federal Capital Territory, Housing and Urban Development, State for Health and Social Welfare, and Art, Culture and Creative Economy, as well as the National Security Adviser.

Additional members are the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, the Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), and the Chief of Defence Staff.

“The Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, will serve as the Secretariat to the committee.”

The President has further instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to set up condolence registers at their offices to allow members of the public to express their sympathies.

Additionally, central condolence registers will be made available for the diplomatic community and the general public at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
