Police Arrest Man Who Offered N1.5m For Release Of ‘Kidnapper’

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police operatives have arrested Yahaya Saleh for allegedly attempting to bribe investigators to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper.

FCT Police Commissioner, CP Saka Ajao Adewale, informed newsmen on Wednesday that Saleh offered N1.5 million to police officers handling the kidnapping case.

The arrest was made by the command’s Scorpion Squad, which is investigating a kidnapping syndicate active in the FCT and surrounding areas.

Adewale explained that the 40-year-old Saleh approached the investigators, attempting to compromise the case and secure the unlawful release of one of the arrested suspects. Demonstrating “professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice,” the officers immediately rejected the bribe and initiated legal procedures, leading to Saleh’s arrest.

The police commissioner commended his officers’ conduct and assured the public that the command remains steadfast against corruption and interference with justice.

An investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
