OPC Leader Reacts Strongly As Asari Dokubo Calls Yoruba People Betrayers

Chief Dare Adesope, leader of the Oodua People’s Congress (Reformed), has issued a strong warning to former Niger Delta militant leader Mujahid Asari-Dokubo for accusing the Yoruba people of being betrayers.

Asari-Dokubo, in a widely circulated live broadcast, recently claimed that President Bola Tinubu and the Yoruba were betrayers and vowed to form an alliance with the North to oppose Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

In a statement released Tuesday in Lagos, Adesope urged Asari-Dokubo to speak only for himself and avoid jeopardizing the good relationship between the Yoruba and Ijaw communities.

Adesope asserted that Asari-Dokubo’s recent outbursts do not represent the Ijaw people and that he should be “ignored and left to stew in his juice.”

The OPC leader also highlighted that Asari-Dokubo’s current standing would have been difficult without Tinubu’s assistance.

He referenced a 2023 online interview where Asari-Dokubo himself admitted that Tinubu had “bought him his first car on his return from prison, paid his children’s school fees, fed his family, and even gave his wife a house.”

According to Adesope, Asari-Dokubo is a “selfish, two-faced character” who, after visiting President Tinubu two years ago, promised to combat oil theft in the Niger Delta, allegedly expecting to be awarded the pipeline surveillance contract.

He said, Dokubo is only grieved that his brother Tompolo is the one benefiting the pipeline surveillance contract, reason he turned around to pass insults on Tinubu.

“Asari cannot point to any of his followers he has empowered because he is a self-centered leader, let him mind his choice of words where Yoruba people are concerned  or else we will restrict his movement in Yorubaland.

“This is how he pushed Fubara bragging that if Wike removed him something would happen, but nothing happened except the state of emergency and he has not done anything since then. So, the Ijaw Nation I know can never descend so low to the point of requiring Asari Dokubo to lead it because his utterances are immature and unstable,” Adesope added.
