57 Lawyers Elevated To Senior Advocate Of Nigeria (SAN) Rank [FULL LIST]

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the appointment of 57 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), recognizing their outstanding contributions to the legal profession.

This decision was made during the LPPC’s 169th plenary session in Abuja, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Out of the 57 elevated, 56 are advocates and one is an academic.

Notably, only two women received the prestigious rank this year: Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, who chairs the NBA 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme.

Prominent figures among the new SANs include Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General of Abia State and former Chairman of the NBA Lagos branch; Labaran Magaji, immediate past Attorney General and current Secretary to the Nassarawa State Government; and Oluwole Jimi-Bada, the Attorney General of Osun State.

The sole academic elevated to SAN this year is Professor Chima Ubanyionwu.

The newly appointed SANs will be sworn in by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The SAN rank is a testament to a legal practitioner’s exceptional professional excellence, whether through distinguished advocacy in court or significant academic contributions to legal scholarship.

“The rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred as a mark of professional excellence upon legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in the courts or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship,” said the committee in a statement.

“During the session, the Committee also considered three (3) petitions submitted against certain applicants. Upon thorough review, each petition was found to be lacking in merit and was accordingly dismissed.

“In accordance with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all shortlisted prospective Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) conferees are required to attend and successfully complete the Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme.”
