Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Minister of Information, stated on Friday that the party is actively working to bring Peter Obi back into its fold.
Gana, who also ran as a presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), made these remarks during an appearance on AIT’s Focus Nigeria.
Obi, the former governor of Anambra, had resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, just days before its scheduled presidential primary for the 2023 elections.

He cited that “recent developments in the party do not support constructive contributions.” On May 27, 2022, Obi subsequently joined the Labour Party (LP), becoming its presidential flag-bearer and contesting the 2023 election.
When questioned during the program about whether the PDP had contacted Obi regarding his return, Gana simply responded, “Why not?”
Gana also expressed his personal view that if he were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, he would have foregone his 2023 presidential ambition to support Obi.
Gana confirmed that he is leading the delegation formed by the PDP to lobby its former members to return.
“He [Obi] is not the only person. We are also moving to other persons. But I don’t want to announce until we really get there,” he said.
Gana said the PDP crisis is over, adding that the party is now a “credible alternative” for the 2027 elections.
“I have a very solid platform. I can now go back to these people and say the platform you were complaining about is now set, proper, and ready to move. I know many of them would respond,” he said.
Gana characterized Nigeria’s economy under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration as “chaotic,” pointing to soaring commodity prices and the widespread difficulty Nigerians face in affording basic necessities.
The former minister further declared that the opposition PDP is prepared to assume power in 2027.
