Oyetola Announces Decision Concerning Osun 2026 Governorship Election

Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and immediate past governor of Osun State, has declared that he will not be contesting the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

Oyetola conveyed his decision to All Progressives Congress (APC) party leaders during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo on Friday, amidst previous speculations of his potential re-entry into the governorship race.

At the meeting, which was attended by five governorship aspirants and co-led by Oyetola alongside Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Elders’ Caucus Chairman Sola Akinwumi, Oyetola emphasized that returning the APC to power by 2026 is paramount and achievable.

He then formally announced that he would not seek the APC governorship ticket and extended his best wishes to those running on the party’s platform for the August 7, 2026 poll.

“We have qualified, competent, and people of outstanding track records as aspirants contesting for the governorship election, and this is a unique selling proposition to feast on, and we will continue to complement the federal government’s efforts on all fronts,” Oyetola said
