The Super Falcons of Nigeria achieved a remarkable comeback on Saturday, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
This victory marks the Falcons’ 10th African Women’s trophy.
Under the guidance of Justin Madugu, the Nigerian squad was eager to avenge their 2024 semi-final defeat by the North Africans.
Despite initial pressure from the Falcons, Morocco drew first blood in the 13th minute when a loose ball fell to tournament top scorer Ghizlane Chebbak, who powerfully struck it past Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Okoronkwo calmly converted the spot-kick, giving Nigeria a glimmer of hope.
In the 71st minute, Okoronkwo surged down the right flank, cut into the area, and calmly squared the ball for a well-positioned Ijamilusi to tap home, leveling the score.
The Super Falcons then sealed their victory in the 88th minute after a deep free-kick found the outstretched toe of Echegini, who poked the ball into the net from close range, securing their 3-2 win.
