25-Day Power Outage Looms As TCN Begins Maintenance

Electricity consumers in Lagos State should anticipate “intermittent” blackouts over the next 25 days, starting today, July 28, and lasting until August 21, 2025.

This is due to a scheduled maintenance operation by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the crucial Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV power line.

TCN announced that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO) have approved this “critical infrastructure upgrade,” which involves installing an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable.

The daily maintenance work will occur from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day.

Despite the temporary disruption, TCN, through its General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, assured the public that power will be restored after each day’s work and that all other circuits will remain operational to maintain a stable power supply to Lagos.

Upon completion, this upgrade is expected to enable the full operation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, significantly improving real-time monitoring and management of the national grid.

Both Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric (IE) have issued notices to their customers, confirming the planned outage.

They stated that the maintenance work will result in intermittent power supply and load shedding across their respective networks and apologized for any inconvenience.
