The Federal Government has introduced the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a new initiative aimed at boosting the welfare and professional development of staff across Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
According to a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the fund.
Both academic and non-academic staff in tertiary institutions are eligible to benefit from this scheme.

Minister Alausa explained that TISSF is a welfare-focused loan program designed to provide financial stability, enhance quality of life, and support career advancement for tertiary institution staff nationwide.
Eligible staff members can receive up to ₦10 million, with a cap set at 33.3 percent of their gross annual salary.
These funds can be used for purposes such as transportation, medical support, and micro-enterprise ventures like poultry farming.
The program will be implemented in partnership with the Bank of Industry, which will oversee the disbursement process to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective delivery. Alausa stated that the TISSF is part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader efforts to reform and strengthen the tertiary education sector.
“TISSF is not just about welfare. It is about empowerment,” Minister Alausa emphasized.
“We are ensuring that our education workforce is supported to live well, grow professionally, and continue contributing meaningfully to institutional excellence.”
