Ahmed Hardawa, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), has passed away at the age of 60.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Hardawa “died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.”
Governor Bala Mohammed expressed his “deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss” over Hardawa’s death. Gidado described the late Hardawa as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian whose meritorious service to Bauchi State and the nation at large left a lasting legacy.”

Hardawa previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa states, where he was known for his “unwavering integrity, diligence, and fairness.”
As Chairman of BASIEC, he played a crucial role “in deepening democratic governance at the grassroots through the promotion of transparent and credible electoral processes,” earning the respect of colleagues, political actors, and the public for his “commitment to the rule of law and institutional development.”
Governor Mohammed praised Hardawa as a “man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose experience and service will be greatly missed.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, BASIEC, friends, associates, and the people of Hardawa and Misau Emirate Councils.
The governor prayed that Almighty Allah would “forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his loved ones the strength to bear this great loss.”
The funeral prayer (Janazah) for Alhaji Hardawa is scheduled for today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace, Bauchi, by 5:00 p.m.
