Fani-Kayode Reacts Strongly To US Criticism Of Nigerian Governors’ Spending

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has sharply criticized the United States government following a recent post from the U.S. Mission in Nigeria that scrutinized the spending habits of some Nigerian governors.

The U.S. Mission, under its #TransparencyTuesday campaign, had shared a report stating, “While Nigerians are urged to endure economic hardship like labor pains, some governors are splurging billions on new government houses, airports, and flyovers that may not be necessary.”

Reacting to this, Fani-Kayode accused the U.S. government of hypocrisy and urged it to address its own internal issues before “lecturing others on governance.”

The former minister, a prominent critic of U.S.-backed Israeli actions in Gaza, further asserted that America is “aiding genocide” through its continued support.

On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Whilst the children of Gaza are being slaughtered and starved, the American government is sending more and more weapons to Israel to assist them in committing genocide.”

He also alleged, “Worse still, the American government is using the Ukraine-Russia war to launder money and make billions of dollars for its corrupt leaders.”

Fani-Kayode additionally accused the U.S. of having used USAID “as a conduit to fund billions of dollars into and from various nations across the world in a bid to corrupt and destroy them.”

He concluded that the U.S. government lacks the moral standing to offer governance lessons to other nations, advising, “Before you give us lessons in governance, kindly drain your American swamp and clean up the mess you have put the world in.”
