President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of the governing council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, located in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.
The appointments were announced on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a management expert and former University of Port Harcourt lecturer, has been named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

Also from the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, a geography professor and former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, will serve as the Vice-Chancellor.
Both Baridam and Mmom are from the South-South geopolitical zone.
Other members of the governing council include Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South-West), Prof. Chima Oji (South-East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West).
The statement clarified that President Tinubu appointed “a team of professionals to play key roles at the university.”
It also listed other principal officers: Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South South) as the Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) as the Bursar, and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South South) as the Librarian.
The new university is expected to admit its first set of students in September 2025.
President Tinubu signed the bill establishing the university into law on February 3, 2025.
