President Bola Tinubu on Friday called on young Nigerians in the digital media space to use their platforms as tools for national unity.
Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit, which was themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” Tinubu underscored the need to verify information before sharing it.
He encouraged the youth to be positive catalysts for development by creating businesses and producing content that reflects unifying values.

“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance our nation’s progress. Build businesses that employ others. Create content that uplifts and unites. Use your influence to foster unity, not division,” Tinubu stated, according to a release by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President praised the creativity of Nigerian youth, noting that digital media is a key driver of economic and social transformation.
“You are not waiting for the future; you are building it. Digital media is now a central driver of economic growth, civic engagement, and social change,” he said, adding that it also gives a voice to those who were previously unheard.
Tinubu also affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting digital innovation through the National Digital Innovation Fund and other policies designed to foster a thriving startup ecosystem.
He concluded by cautioning practitioners to remain vigilant against disinformation and cyber threats.
The summit’s convener, Segun Dada, who also serves as the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, highlighted that in less than a decade, digital media has become a powerful engine for communication and influence.
He emphasized the importance of harnessing this power for Nigeria’s benefit while managing inherent risks like privacy concerns and threats to social cohesion.
