Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has made history by winning their fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women’s title, a first for any African country.
In a tense final, Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64, showcasing their resilience and composure to claim their seventh overall AfroBasket title.
The team has been a dominant force in African women’s basketball, extending their winning streak to 29 consecutive games without a loss since 2015.
Despite a slow start, similar to their earlier games in the tournament, the team, led by coach Rena Wakama, regrouped in the second quarter to tie the score at 41-41 by halftime.
To reach the final, D’Tigress had to overcome a tough challenge from Senegal, winning 75-68 in a game that was dubbed the “final before the final.”
