States Predicted To Experience Above-Normal Rainfall

Based on a weather outlook from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), several Northern states are expected to get above-normal rainfall as the country nears the height of the rainy season.
Rainfall and Flooding

States predicted to experience a downpour include Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Katsina, Yobe, Borno, and Kebbi.

The increased rainfall could lead to rising river levels and saturated soil, significantly increasing the risk of flash and riverine flooding.

In response, NiMet has issued a warning to flood-prone areas, urging residents to stay alert, follow evacuation orders, and keep important documents safe in waterproof containers.

Emergency agencies and community leaders are also advised to use NiMet’s updates to prepare and educate communities on flood safety and mitigation.

Meanwhile, a few other regions have different predictions:

* Taraba, Southern Adamawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may experience slightly below-normal rainfall.

* The Southwest is expected to have a brief dry spell in early August before rainfall gradually returns later in the month.

NiMet also predicts that August temperatures will remain relatively low, especially at night and in the early morning.

They advise the public to dress infants and young children warmly and boost their immunity with proper nutrition, such as increased Vitamin C intake, to prevent seasonal illnesses.
