Why Tinubu Gave Wike Appointment – Lamido

Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state, has suggested that President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Nyesom Wike as the minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was a strategic move to gain political control of the South-South region.

According to Lamido, who made the claim on Arise Television, Wike’s ministerial role is not permanent and will last only as long as it serves Tinubu’s political agenda.

Once the president has secured his interests in the region, Lamido believes Wike will be removed from his position.

“The whole appointment of Wike was to make sure Tinubu secures the south-south,” he said.

Lamido stated that Tinubu has successfully established a presence in Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Delta states, while Wike currently maintains control over Rivers State.

He cautioned, however, that if Tinubu manages to fully dominate the entire South-South region, Wike’s influence will diminish, making him irrelevant and expendable.

“So far, maybe by Tinubu’s personal manipulation or coercion, he has been able to win over Akwa Ibom, Edo and Delta states. Wike already has Rivers state,” he said.

“By the time Tinubu is able to secure the south-south in his own basket, Wike will become irrelevant, and he will remove him.

“He appointed Wike for a purpose, gave him an office for a purpose; by the time the purpose is no more, that’s the end of it.”
