FG Sacks 15 Prison Officers, Sanctions 216

In a significant disciplinary exercise aimed at reinforcing professionalism, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has dismissed 15 personnel from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and sanctioned 216 others.

The action follows a meticulous review of 231 disciplinary cases by the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee.

According to a statement by the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the measures are intended to restore public confidence and “sanitise the system.”

Summary of Disciplinary Actions:

  • 15 personnel were dismissed for serious misconduct and violating Service regulations.
  • 59 officers had their ranks reduced for breaching professional standards.
  • 42 personnel received written warning letters.
  • 8 personnel were compulsorily retired.
  • 1 officer had his rank reversed and was ordered to refund all earnings from the wrongful rank.
  • 7 staff members were suspended pending further investigation.
  • 1 officer was suspended and recommended for prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for financial impropriety.
  • 16 officers were exonerated after being found not guilty.

The Board, led by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunde Ojo, reaffirmed its commitment to ethical excellence.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwacuhe, assured the public that all disciplinary measures were implemented “with fairness and in strict compliance with established rules and procedures.”
